Michael Jackson’s closest ally Elton John insists the entertainer’s fame damaged his mental well-being, causing significant complications.
Her recently published memoir also described her experiences with Jackson as violent. The 72-year-old vocalist acknowledged their initial friendship, portraying him as an “exceptionally charming youth” when they initially met at 13.
However, as Jackson’s fame grew Elton saw changes. In every meeting with Jackson as an adult, Elton got the impression that Jackson’s mental state had deteriorated and that his drug overdose remained a mystery
Elton John revealed, “We learned about these things quite recently. In addition to his intense mental struggles, he had a tendency to get stronger. Jackson wandered into one of Elton’s parties and he was later seen playing with the housekeeper’s son.”
The artist said Jackson “for some reason preferred the company of children” and appeared a lot in his book. Elton John also delved into his difficult upbringing and spoke about his relationship with his late mother, Sheila Fairbrother. Sheila and her husband David Furnish have two sons together, aged eight and Elijah, six. Because of her relationship with David, Sheila never got the chance to meet her grandchildren. Elton John said, “I’m sure they never found him because they would have had the same rejection he had me.”
